Internships

  • Artisan & Programs Intern
    Craft Lake City is looking for a new volunteer intern to join our office team. This volunteer intern will support the Craft Lake City Artisan & Programs Manager and other key staff members with the daily operations of the organization. The intern should have an interest in the local maker movement, familiarity with Craft Lake City’s programs and mission, and a desire to gain experience in nonprofit arts administration and event support.

    Intern Title: Artisan & Programs Intern
    Department: Programming
    Reports to: Artisan & Programs Manager
    Commitment: One year, 10 hours/week

    Responsibilities
    -Support Craft Lake City management and staff with a variety of daily tasks, including data entry, correspondence, report drafting and event preparation.
    -Update online community calendars with upcoming CLC events each month.
    -Scan artisan paperwork and file into appropriate online folders.
    -Prepare post-event reports for venue partners, grants and sponsors.
    -Digitize survey responses from community events and workshops.
    -Assist with counting, organizing, and preparing supplies for CLC events.
    -Draft thank-you notes and other correspondence.
    -Serve as a public representative of Craft Lake City at select events, assisting with setting up and breaking down as needed.
    -Assist with creating event-related graphics for social media use.

    DIY FESTIVAL
    -Support Artisan & Program Manager with outreach and application follow-up.
    -Provide assistance for related trainings and programs, including support for RSVPs, nametags, meeting materials, checklists, inventory, etc.
    -Update exhibitor profiles on the website with cancellations and replacements.
    -Assist with the DIY Festival as a Craft Lake City volunteer team member (Aug 4-11 2020), assisting as needed.

    -Customer service experience
    -Maturity and ability to professionally represent Craft Lake City
    -Desire to help with tasks ranging from data entry to in-person event support
    -Ability to access email each day and respond in a timely manner
    -Knows how to spell “team player” without an “I” or “me”
    -Flexible and willing to adapt to the various tasks and situations of a not-for-profit world
    -Ability to bring your thoughts and ideas to the table in a constructive manner, and open to receiving constructive criticism on your own work
    -Proficient with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.
    -Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, social media, or website management a plus

    Requirements:
    -Must attend required meetings and trainings
    -Must be able to commit to scheduled work hours, approximately 10 hours per week
    -Must have your own laptop
    -Must be comfortable lifting chairs, tables, and other supplies

  • Videographer Intern
    Craft Lake City is looking for a videographer intern who is passionate about the DIY culture and is looking to build a killer portfolio. The primary responsibility is to conceptualize and execute the creation and production of multimedia products that will help expand Craft Lake City’s brand, influence the maker community, and reach a new and changing audience. This is an entry-level volunteer position for someone looking to build a portfolio and gain professional experience in a non-profit environment.

    Duties/Responsibilities
    -Ideate, shoot, edit and produce impactful video content.
    -Collaborates with subject matter consultants and Craft Lake City staff to evaluate and plan productions.
    -Ability to shoot workshops, promotional and b-roll footage as well as all post-production responsibilities.
    - Ensures lighting positions, sound enhancements, and proper recording equipment are in place to capture the best images.
    -Responsible for editing all media/audio including transitions, graphics, lower thirds, titles, color correction, and sweetening of the audio to create a professional video product.
    -Responsible for equipment including all camera, lighting, audio, editing hardware and software.
    -Assist Craft Lake City’s DIY Festival Team in filming, editing and posting footage associated with producing the virtual version of the 12th Annual Craft Lake City DIY Festival
    -Learn about and help maintain our team culture and uphold our values through creative ways.

    Qualifications:

    -Working towards bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication or Video Production; OR experience performing described duties required.
    -Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    -Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro X or After Effects
    -Proficient with Google Suite and Project related software.
    -Thorough understanding of and ability to use basic video production equipment.
    -Thorough understanding of artistic styles, techniques, methodologies, and effects used within video production.

    Requirements:
    -Must have your own, camera, recording equipment, computer and cell phone
    -Available 10-15 hours per week as needed, depending on the project

    -Ability to check email/communication platforms twice daily with flexibility to address any time-sensitive items

  • Web Developer Intern
    Craft Lake City is looking for an intern web developer who is passionate about the DIY culture and is looking to build a killer portfolio. We are looking for a talented web developer to create secure and functional code. You may have to provide quality coding solutions both for simple applications and complex information or operating systems.

    The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology and the Craft Lake City brand. The goal is to design and build a superior and innovative online experience by writing clean and flawless code. This is an entry-level volunteer position for someone looking to build a portfolio and gain professional experience in a non-profit environment.

    Responsibilities
    -Collaborate with Craft Lake City and developers to produce a unique online experience.
    -Monitor user’s online experience and work closely with CLC developer team to fix bugs
    -Formulate program specifications and basic prototypes
    -Transform designs and specifications into high functioning code in the appropriate language
    -Test code periodically to ensure it produces the desirable results and perform debugging when necessary
    -Collaborate with technical writers to create documentation for user support

    Requirements
    -Proven experience as a programmer or relevant role
    -Ability to program in languages such as C++, Java (J2EE), XML etc.
    -Experience in developing web applications using at least one popular web framework
    -Excellent knowledge with relational databases, SQL and ORM technologies
    -Experience with installing Wordpress templates, wordpress plugins, etc.
    -Detail-oriented and excellent concentration ability
    -An analytical mindset and critical thinking
    -Demonstrable ability to discover and fix errors in code
    -Coursework in computer science, web development or relevant discipline
    -User experience a gaming platforms

Volunteer

We’re always looking for passionate volunteers who understand Craft Lake City’s mission and are eager to share their love for the organization and DIY culture with the community.

If you are interested in working with Craft Lake City on a regular basis, consider joining our volunteer Marketing Team! Our Marketing Team helps represent Craft Lake City at community events such as the Downtown Farmers Market, Arts Day on the Hill and the Pierpont Gallery Stroll, just to name a few. Marketing Team members play a critical role by helping to educate the public about Craft Lake City and its programs. Team members attend regular Marketing Team meetings and trainings and participate in events throughout the year. Duties may include assisting with table/booth setup, staffing the booth to represent Craft Lake City and educate others, and working with the public to create make-and-take crafts.
